What ever happened to customer service?

What ever happened to customer service? Back in the day a dollar was a powerful force demanding respect for consumers. Today it doesn't matter how many bills you have in your wallet. If a cashier is having a bad day they are more than willing to pass their grief onto you. Not too long ago employees use to, dare I say, bend over backwards for a customer. They used to care if a potential profit was happy with their service or not and would try to satisfy them in efforts of not letting them walk out the door. I'm not saying this was the case everywhere. I can definitely state that for some reason there is now an epidemic of businesses ready and willing to give you a piece of their minds regardless of making a profit or not. What happened to customer service? I also find that this is the case with the hire-ups. Even managers have failed to offer their expertise in defusing an unhappy or angry customer.

About a month ago I personally experienced this typed of behavior. I was at the McDonald's on Route 168 in Audubon, NJ. Apparently there was one line up until I entered the building, which is unusual because I prefer to go through the drive thru. A woman, let's just call her "Ms. Butthead", decided that because she was previously standing in the initial line for a while that it would be protocol to just step in front of me and my daughter. I first confronted her politely and let her know that she had just cut in front of me. She ignored me. Then the cashier was ready for her next customer, me, but "Ms. Butthead" began giving her order. Despite my efforts to inform the cashier that this lady was not next she continued to push the pretty buttons with the pictures of hamburgers and fries on them. I then asked for the manager and all that did was extend my waste of time. For some reason Ms. Butthead thought she needed to inform me that there was only one line and that this register just opened. How exactly was I supposed to know that? I made another attempt to have justice served with the manager and all she did was whisper to the cashier and let me know that she'd be more than willing to take my order on the next machine which was where this Troll of a Lady in front of me had just came from. I let her know that I was not like Ms. Butthead and that I was not going to step in front of the other customers.

To make a petty story short, I received nothing from the cashier and nothing from the manager who looked and acted like she was more than ten years younger than me. Still had the smell of milk on her, wet behind the ears with a case of the loss for words blues. No one said anything except the ignorant female type with absolutely no manners. I spoke with the manager after we ate our fast food that took forever to get. I tried to calmly explain to her, making sure not to use big words, that I didn't think it was fair or right that I was just ignored during my complaint. I told her that all she did was stand there and say nothing. This deer caught in the head lights then tried to lie and say that she could not do anything after the order had stared being taken. I let her know that she was not telling me the truth because people change their orders all the time. All she had to do was add my order and delete the Troll's. Her response. . . . . . was silence.

Needless to say I will never return to this place and neither will any of my friends and family after hearing how poorly I was treated and how no feasible solution had been given. It was quite obvious that this team of professionals had not been trained correctly. In my opinion, it doesn't matter if you're in a suit or papaer hat or standing in an establishment with paper napkins or cloth napkins. All customers should be treated fairly and like they are all important to the company because without us where would they be?

  1. Your story on customer service, I truly concur with your dreadful experience. However sometimes individuals must not allow ignorant people to indulged in their bad-mannered blissful behavior towards others. Some humans are just selffish by nature and will remain that way until their death. They may not never take in consideration for others. This is their loss of a chance to be awarded of good karma!
